Put simply, EPR requires manufacturers to be financially and legally responsible for the life cycle impacts of their products on the environment. In the automotives sector, the key EPR driven initiatives are the End of Life Vehicles Directive, and corresponding compliance tool, IMDS; and more latterly the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation.

This shift in focus away from site based environmental impacts to product impacts creates a variety of challenges as well as opportunities for manufacturers. More latterly our team has been working with the automotive sector in responding to the challenges posed by the REACH regulation by participating in REACH seminars in the UK and India, as well as supporting a number of suppliers in the development of their REACH compliance strategies.
